Miranda Klaver

As an anthropologist and theologian questions regarding the relationship between culture and religion are at the core of Klaver's research interests. Her current research concerns the  expansion of global evangelical, charismatic and pentecostal networks of churches in the Netherlands with a focus on the impact of new media in the construction of community and identity. 


In 2011 she defended her thesis (cum laude) on conversion in Dutch evangelical/Pentecostal churches called This is my Desire, a Semiotic Perspective on Conversion in an Evangelical Seeker Church and a Pentecostal Church in the Netherlands. Her dissertation was nominated for the VU University Junior Societal Impact Award 2011 and the dissertation price of the faculty of Social Sciences 2011.

Next to her work as a researcher, she teaches the courses Anthropology of Religion, Religion and Popular Culture and courses in the MA program Media, Religion and Culture.
